Hair Care · How-to Video

About this work

This video demonstrates a step-by-step curly hair routine focused on achieving volume and definition. It includes sections on washing and detangling hair, applying leave-in conditioner and heat protectant, using curl cream and mousse, brush styling techniques, diffusing with a hairdryer, and finishing with oil to scrunch out the gel cast. The routine is completed by pineappling the hair and sleeping in a bonnet for overnight protection. The final result showcases defined and voluminous curls. The creator uses several hair products and styling tools throughout the demonstration.

steal my curly hair routine! (volume & definition) VLOGMAS DAY 5 if your curls look like this, I'm gonna show you exactly what we're gonna use. All right, so first you're gonna start with freshly washed and soaked hair, and make sure it's completely soaking wet. It should look like that. Next, you're gonna take a leave-in conditioner. I use the Not Your Mother's Curl Talk Leave-in and the Rucker Roots heat protectant. And you're just gonna spray that in your hair and rake it through, and make sure it's very evenly distributed throughout your hair. Now you're going to take a detangling brush and detangle your hair. And once it's fully detangled, you're just gonna brush it back. So you get rid of your middle part, or try to get rid of your middle part. Sometimes it doesn't really work. After you've fully detangled your hair, you're gonna section off the crown of your head and put it up with either a claw clip or a hair tie. I didn't have a claw clip at hand, so I'm using a hair tie instead. After I section off the crown of my head, I then section off another layer of my hair. So in total, I have three sections of hair that I'm going to be working with. Now you're going to go in with curl cream. I'm using the Rizo's curl cream because I haven't used it in a while. And you're just gonna rake it through both sides of your hair, just like that. And then after you rake it through your hair, you're then going to brush it through your hair to make sure it's really evenly distributed. Now it's time to brush style! So I'm just gonna take my bounce curl brush, make sure it's fully detangled, and then go up from my hair for the most volume that I can. After you've done the whole crown of your head, you're just gonna scrunch in more gel. I'm not using the Not Your Mother's Curl Talk gel, but Curl gel. And then scrunch it into your hair, to start creating a gel cast and hold your definition. Now I'm going to do the same thing to the other side and the second layer of my hair. Now you're gonna take the crown of your head and brush it forward. First, you're gonna want to re-wet it so it's not frizzy, and then also use a detangling brush to brush it forward, as it'll make it easier to get through. Now you're going to take your curl cream and rake it through the whole section of your hair, making sure it's evenly distributed and using a brush to brush it through. Now you're gonna take your brush or your finger and create a small, kind of thin section in your hair like I did, and then you're gonna make sure the section is thoroughly detangled, and then you're gonna brush it forward and up and back. Now you're going to scrunch in gel! I'm using the Mielle Maximum Hold Gel Styler and then claw clip your roots up so they get more volume while they're drying. You're going to use a 100% cotton t-shirt to scrunch dry some of the water in your hair, so it will air dry faster. Then you're going to let it air dry for about 10 minutes before you diffuse. After it's air-dried for a bit, you're going to start by hover diffusing and making sure that you move your hair around while you're diffusing, so nothing gets stuck or stiff and your hair will move around easily when it's fully dry. After hover diffusing for a bit, take out the claw clip and then start to really get at your roots and make sure you're flipping your roots over and then kind of massage your scalp and your roots as you're drying. Now you're going to scrunch diffuse! It's going to take a little bit, but just keep scrunch diffusing your hair and flipping it around until it's pretty much fully dry. After your hair is fully diffused, you're going to flip your hair upside down and pineapple it and then put it into a bonnet. I do mine at night, so I'm going to go to bed and wake up and scrunch out the crunch in the morning. All right, so when I'm ready to take off my bonnet in the morning, I take it off. And it was still a little wet when I took it off, so I did diffuse it a little bit more because it's super cold out and I don't want my hair to freeze. But after you take off your bonnet, you're then going to take some oil, I'm using the Rucker Roots anti-frizz, silkening, growth serum, and you're just going to scrunch out your gel cast and kind of shake it out. You can slap it a little bit, just make sure you get all the gel cast off. So, after you've done scrunching out your gel cast, your hair will gain volume throughout the day. So don't worry if it looks a little flat. I hope you enjoyed. Bye!
