A scraping API gives you raw platform JSON for a thing you already identified. A creator data API gives you filtered, normalized creator records plus, sometimes, the workflow to hire them. Both are legitimate. They are priced differently, they fail differently, and picking the wrong one costs you a quarter.
This is the hub for the whole comparison set. Each vendor below has a detailed teardown linked from its section. All figures verified 1 October 2026 against the vendors' own pages.

Apify
A scraping platform, not a social API. You run Actors, which are Docker containers, and pay for compute.
Buy it when your targets are arbitrary, your logic is custom, or you want to write and host your own scraper. 78,000+ Actors, first class JS and Python clients, and Crawlee which you can self host for free. For post level depth it is excellent: clockworks/tiktok-comments-scraper at $0.50 per 1,000 comments has no equivalent in this comparison.
The catch is that cost is variable by construction. A compute unit is memory times duration, so identical output bills differently depending on how hard the target resists. Residential proxy is $7 to $8 per GB on top. Prepaid usage expires monthly. And the headline per result prices on Store listings are Business plan ($999/mo) rates: the same Instagram scraper is $2.70 per 1,000 on Free against $1.50 on Business.
The gap that matters
Apify has no first party creator discovery or contact Actor. That layer is served by community Actors with 9 and 61 lifetime users respectively.

Scrape Creators
The best pure scraping API in this set, and the cheapest credible per request price in the category.
Buy it when you need breadth and cheap raw JSON. 37+ APIs across 20+ platforms including four ad libraries, Google SERP, Telegram, Spotify, Twitch, and five link in bio services. $0.99 per 1,000 requests at the Business pack, credits that never expire, no subscription, no published rate limits, and cache hits that cost zero credits. Agent native with an MCP server, CLI, n8n node and HTTP 402 machine payments. Their docs are candid and their marketing is refreshingly blunt.
The catch is scope rather than quality. Search endpoints are keyword and hashtag text search, so there is no way to query by engagement, niche, location, gender and email presence together. Responses are raw platform JSON, so you own normalization across platforms. Self reported stats are 3.12 second average latency and 98.2% success, which is good scraping and not a database read. Three person bootstrapped team, no published SLA terms.
Detailed teardowns:
SociaVault
Note the spelling: SociaVault, not "Social Vault." The similarly named domains are an engagement pod platform, a French recruiting widget and a Polish reels app, none of them a data API.
Buy it when you want cheap raw profile blobs with no subscription. Around 110 endpoints across 16 platform surfaces, credit packs from $29 that never expire, a 50 credit free trial, transcripts across seven platforms, four ad libraries, Facebook Marketplace, TikTok Shop and Google SERP. Their documentation is genuinely good, with honest caveats written into the endpoint descriptions.
The catch: the TikTok user search endpoint accepts exactly three parameters (query, cursor, trim), so there is no attribute filtering on any platform. Audience data is one endpoint, one platform and one dimension (TikTok country distribution) at 26 credits a call. Two marketing claims are not supported by their own docs: "25+ platforms" against 16 documented surfaces, and "under 500ms average latency" against endpoint docs that state 10 to 30 seconds for some transcripts. Operated by Ziddec, Inc. with no published headcount, no disclosed funding, a contradictory founding date and effectively no independent reviews.
Detailed teardown:
The others worth knowing
- EnsembleData, a units based social data API, covered in our breakdown of what the EnsembleData API actually returns
- Modash, an influencer discovery platform rather than a raw data API, which puts it closer to the creator API end of the spectrum. See Modash alternatives for creator and UGC data and Modash alternatives for finding creators
- Bright Data, Oxylabs and ScraperAPI, general purpose proxy and scraping vendors. They dominate the "alternative" SERPs for every vendor on this page, which is an artefact of SEO rather than a signal that they fit creator work.
The four questions that decide it
Forget feature matrices for a moment. Four questions settle this.
First, do you already know who the creators are?
If yes, any scraping API works and you should buy on price, which means Scrape Creators or SociaVault.
If no, and finding them is the feature, none of the three scraping products can express the query. There is no engagement_min plus niche plus state plus has_email on any of them. You will build candidate enumeration, filtering, engagement computation and contact parsing yourself, and keep maintaining it.
Second, is someone waiting for the response?
An Apify run is start, poll, fetch, with the synchronous option capping at 300 seconds before erroring. Scrape Creators averages 3.12 seconds. Both are fine for batch jobs. Neither sits behind a user facing search box without your own cache layer.
Third, who computes engagement rate?
None of the scraping APIs return it. You derive it from post level data, which means more calls (paginated, so more credits), plus a decision about how many recent posts to average and how to weight reels against static posts. Different teams reach different numbers for the same creator, which makes vendor comparisons and internal benchmarks unreliable.
Fourth, what happens after you find them?
This is the one that usually decides it, and it is the row where all three scraping products are blank. Briefs, contracts, deliverables, payouts, affiliate links, content tracking, webhooks. If your product hires creators rather than just displaying their stats, that is five integrations and a database, or it is endpoints on the key you already have.
The UGC Roster API exposes creator search, briefs, campaigns and payouts behind one key at UGCRoster:
Then /v1/briefs, /v1/contracts, /v1/deliverables, /v1/payouts and /v1/webhooks carry the rest of the workflow on the same key.
More than 1,000,000 Instagram and TikTok creators, 14 filters, 16 fields per record, engagement_rate precomputed, extracted_email filterable. Searches cost 10 credits and profile reads cost 1, on plans at $98, $398 and $998 a month.
Honest scope limits
Because a comparison that only flatters its author is worthless:
- Platform coverage is narrower. Instagram and TikTok. If you need YouTube channel data, Reddit, LinkedIn, Twitch or ad libraries, a scraping API covers ground a creator graph does not, and
streamers/youtube-scraperat 4.80 stars is the better YouTube tool. - No transcripts, no comments, no follower lists. Different product.
- No audience demographics. If audience age and gender composition drives your selection, evaluate a dedicated audience vendor; nobody in this comparison does it well, and the TikTok country endpoints are thin.
- Credits are a monthly allowance, not a non expiring pack. For irregular project work, non expiring credits are genuinely better and Scrape Creators and SociaVault both win that point.
- Per minute rate limits of 60 to 300 by tier, where Scrape Creators publishes none. For burst backfills, size for this.
The recommendation
Running two tools is usually correct, and treating this as a single vendor decision is the actual mistake.
Use a scraping API for breadth: platforms outside Instagram and TikTok, comments, transcripts, ad libraries, and anything where you already know the handle. Scrape Creators is the strongest of the three on price and breadth; Apify is the only one that handles arbitrary non social targets and custom logic.
Use a creator data API for the vertical: discovery by attributes, normalized records, queryable contact, and the hiring workflow after it.
The reason to be careful about which is which is that the scraping products are cheap and the pipeline on top of them is not. Credits at $0.99 per 1,000 are not the cost of creator discovery. The cost is the engineer maintaining candidate enumeration, engagement math and bio parsing against three platforms that change without notice.

FAQ
What is the difference between a creator data API and a scraping API?
A scraping API fetches raw platform JSON for a handle, hashtag or URL you supply, and you own everything after that: normalization across platforms, engagement computation, contact parsing and filtering. A creator data API maintains a creator graph you query by attributes, returning normalized records with engagement precomputed and contact as a field. The first is a data source; the second is a data model, sometimes with campaign workflow attached.
Which creator data API is cheapest?
Per raw request, Scrape Creators at $0.99 per 1,000 on the Business pack and SociaVault at roughly $0.002 per call are the cheapest, and both sell non expiring credits with no subscription. Per useful creator the comparison inverts, because neither can filter by engagement, niche, location and email presence, so reaching a qualified shortlist means paying for candidates you discard plus building and maintaining the pipeline.
Can any of these APIs find creators by audience demographics?
Not meaningfully. Scrape Creators and SociaVault each expose a single TikTok endpoint returning audience country distribution, with SociaVault charging 26 credits for it, and neither has an Instagram or YouTube equivalent. Apify has nothing first party. If audience age and gender composition drives creator selection, none of these is the right tool and you should evaluate a dedicated audience data vendor.
Do any of them return creator email addresses?
Only what the platform itself publishes. Instagram exposes a business email field on professional accounts that is frequently null, and TikTok exposes none. None of the three scraping products offers enrichment or verification, and none lets you filter for creators who have an email, which is why has_email=true as a query parameter is a meaningful difference rather than a feature list entry.
Is Apify or Scrape Creators better for social data?
For social specifically, Scrape Creators is usually simpler and cheaper: one key, one header, synchronous responses around 3 seconds, no compute units, no proxy line item, no Actor selection, and no plan tier affecting your unit price. Apify wins when you need non social targets, custom scraping logic you write yourself, or deep post level extraction like full comment threads.
Should I use a scraping API or a creator data API?
Ask whether you already know which creators you want. If yes, buy a scraping API on price. If finding them is the feature, or if you need to brief, contract and pay them afterwards, a creator data API removes a pipeline you would otherwise own forever. Many teams genuinely need both, and that is the normal end state rather than a compromise.
